Wanaka's lake and surrounding mountains make a perfect classroom for learning landscape techniques. Kym's art classes and workshops have been described as 'fun, informative and inspirational'.

Get in contact with Kym with the date(s) you'd like to do a workshop and how many will be attending. I teach a minimum of 2 participants or more if you can help with transport to the location. Or if the weather's not suitable we can head into the studio.

I teach by demonstrating each step of the painting process covering themes like: composition, focal point, seeing shapes and colour, brush and soft pastel techniques. At the end of the day I critique  your work to evaluate it's strengths.

What to bring:  Easel and palette, 55mm foam roller and tray, size 18 round filbert  brush (or similar), acrylic paints, soft pastels, clear painting medium, 300gsm watercolour paper, water jar, suitable clothes, a hat, insect repellent, sunscreen and perhaps most importantly – an open mind to seeing the landscape in a different way.
Materials can be provided at extra cost.

Prices:  $270 each/ per day for small groups, $200 each for groups of 5 or more. I negotiate a price with groups when larger numbers are involved.

What students have said…

Thank you so much for such an incredible experience. I couldn't believe how much I gained from the day. So many things finally clicked into place.
The challenge of plein air painting allowed me to see the decision making process behind the design of a landscape painting - verses the real, light changing landscape in front of us - through to completing the final details of the painting. I was thrilled that Kym pointed out what she saw and what she wanted to paint. I began to see so much more. Having Kym painting from the same landscape along with verbal explanations worked so well. Great instructor, knowledgeable and clear.

– Carolyn, YUKON

I recommend to everyone now! Kym's teaching is very clear and relaxed.

This is the first time in a long time I've done something just for me and I looove it! Thanks Kym you're awesome.

Kym's teaching was excellent… verbalising then demonstrating. It worked well for my learning style. Thank you very much Kym. I will have much more confidence now in trying new artistic endeavours.
