Kym Beaton | Mixed Media Artist
Colour in all it's delicious combinations inspires me to paint.
I began painting seriously in 2001 while raising a young family. This became my 'window of sanity' where I made sense of my world through the calming routine of applying colour to a surface. Landscapes, portraits, life drawing – it was all fodder for my brush. In 2010 my family and I moved to Wanaka, a ski town in southern New Zealand, where the mountains, forests and lake lead my artistic expression. My specialty is portraits but I also find inspiration in everyday life and the local community.
I work on canvas or paper and I use acrylic paint, ink and soft pastels.
My style has been described as "colourful and energetic, with effective mark making" also "bold and honest".
I regularly teach and hold weekend workshops, so if you find yourself inspired in Wanaka give me a call.
